Rather than the conventional rezoning of industrial space into residential loft space, I investigated the potential to re-use existing infrastructure of abandoned subway stations/tunnels. Taking advantage of the existing subway network results in less time, fewer CO2 emissions, and a decrease in overall prices of the transportation of goods that would otherwise be done with trucks. This new industrial typology will be created by implementing an elevated landscape along the elevated tracks around LIC and re-using abandoned subway stations that are underground in Manhattan for manufacturing in a similar way as V2 bombers were manufactured underground during World War II.
